Here is a book that will build your faith, give you confidence, and restore hope for yourself and everyone in your life. You will learn how to put your faith in God and God alone-every minute of every day. For the average Christian in the United States, faith is not part of daily life. It is possible to live for months relying on credit cards, medical professionals, insurance, the government, etc., rather than placing faith in God. Rarely do we cast ourselves upon God in naked desperation. When faith is fully understood and properly developed, it assures great victories over the evil one and all of his forces. ...I say to you, "If you have faith as a mustard seed, you will say to this mountain, 'Move from here to there,' and it will move; and nothing will be impossible for you" (Matthew 17:20).The devoted purpose of this book is to arm you with faith that moves mountains-mountains of stress, disappointment, loneliness, burdens, and sadness. Faith ushers in peace and joy unspeakable!

What distinguishes us, what sets us apart? How do we know we are good enough? We are told we are worthy, loved beyond all measures. Why do we strive to be loved, only to feel unloved? We strive to feel together, only to feel broken. Maybe it is faith that sets us apart, that defines us, that creates life. Five simple letters, yet one great meaning. The force that keeps us together, that makes us feel loved, that gives us life. Faith. Daring our souls to go beyond what our eyes see. To believe in the unknown and hope for things anew. Faith that shines through when the rain is pouring down. When puddles collect at our feet in a dirty mess, faith wipes us clean. It heals our wounds and brings a smile to the broken hearted.

The ethnic and religious violence that characterized the late twentieth century calls for new ways of thinking and writing about politics. Listening to the voices of people who experience political violence—either as victims or as perpetrators—gives new insights into both the sources of violent conflict and the potential for its resolution. Drawing on her extensive interviews and conversations with Sikh militants, Cynthia Keppley Mahmood presents their accounts of the human rights abuses inflicted on them by the state of India as well as their explanations of the philosophical tradition of martyrdom and meaningful death in the Sikh faith. While demonstrating how divergent the world views of participants in a conflict can be, Fighting for Faith and Nation gives reason to hope that our essential common humanity may provide grounds for a pragmatic resolution of conflicts such as the one in Punjab which has claimed tens of thousands of lives in the past fifteen years.

“To Timothy, a beloved son” (2 Timothy 1:2). “To Titus, a true son in our common faith” (Titus 1:4). Those are intimate words from Paul’s most intimate letters. With sentiments like, “I remember you in my prayers night and day, greatly desiring to see you” to Timothy (2 Timothy 1:3-4) and fatherly instructions to Titus such as, “But as for you, speak of things which are proper” (Titus 2:1), you’ll discover a compassionate side of Paul rarely discussed—a mentor concerned for his “sons.” Let Ray Stedman help you plumb the depths of these profound epistles to find wisdom and insight you can use in your own fight of faith.

Jesus said we could do big things if we only had faith the size of a mustard seed. A pile of dirt can be moved with one pass of a dozer. The same pile can be moved with a shovel . . . it just takes longer. Jesus’ faith was like a dozer – ours more like a shovel. Too often we give up on the things we pray for because they don’t happen quickly. You can have miraculous faith, just as Jesus said . . . if you’re willing to take it one shovel at a time. There is also personal faith. God has told us that he loves us for example. Satan tells us that he doesn’t – that it’s conditional. It can be believable at times. God is pleased when we can hold to what he told us. It is a process. I call it, The Fight of Faith.

A thorough and hard-hitting critique that is a must read for anyone interested in the interaction between religion and science. It has become the prevalent view among sociologists, historians, and some theistic scientists that religion and science have never been in serious conflict. Some even claim that Christianity was responsible for the development of science. In a sweeping historical survey that begins with ancient Greek science and proceeds through the Renaissance and Enlightenment to contemporary advances in physics and cosmology, Stenger makes a convincing case that not only is this conclusion false, but Christianity actually held back the progress of science for one thousand years. It is significant, he notes, that the scientific revolution of the seventeenth century occurred only after the revolts against established ecclesiastic authorities in the Renaissance and Reformation opened up new avenues of thought. The author goes on to detail how religion and science are fundamentally incompatible in several areas: the origin of the universe and its physical parameters, the origin of complexity, holism versus reductionism, the nature of mind and consciousness, and the source of morality. In the end, Stenger is most troubled by the negative influence that organized religion often exerts on politics and society. He points out antiscientific attitudes embedded in popular religion that are being used to suppress scientific results on issues of global importance, such as overpopulation and environmental degradation. When religion fosters disrespect for science, it threatens the generations of humanity that will follow ours. From the Trade Paperback edition.

I Leif was baptized - buried with Jesus in baptism at Bethel Pentecostal church in meeting September 20, 1987 - I was clinically dead for 1983.Jeg was clinically dead that I mention and met God and Jesus. And was by mercy given salvation and reborn July 8, 1983 at the airport on the way to a hospital where I was transported to the department that healed injuries I still had the body - but had until then from 24 June been at the hospital because of - major surgery was needed and it was and very hard, but there was very good doctors and they managed against all odds.- But I was even declared dead, but was clinically dead - and was in death - and met God and Jesus there - so my life like on a TV screen pass first and the last ones happened was that both God and Jesus were there, and they said: "What shall we do with Leif?". It was said more than once. Then suddenly I was back to life in his hospital bed. And sang, "How Great Thou Art" that song a praise song and none of all of the songs from a Christian Agricultural School did fit.And was reborn and got salvation on July 8, 1983. And I know that throughout The Bible is God's word, and that is true, and to be followed, and that Jesus is alive and gives us salvation - God, Jesus and the Holy Spirit work alone. That God's word in the Bible is the whole truth and that the Bible is sacred. God met me there and Jesus at the airport July 8, 1983 when I said yes, "Let me become a Christian and Jesus came into my heart I want to be your child!".

If your spouse or someone you know has been deployed recently, the stress of this situation will resonate with you. Jocelyn Green speaks directly to the wives of deployed seamen, marines, airmen, and soldiers, through the experiences of their spouses. This book is not “ten easy steps” for a painless life; instead, it is a collection of devotions that squarely addresses the challenges wives face when their husbands are away protecting freedom. Challenges like: how does a military wife maintain a strong sense of patriotism without allowing her country to become an idol? What good can possibly come from moving every two or three years? How can I be sure that God has a purpose for my life that’s as strong as His purpose for my husband’s? The foundation of this devotional is the unchanging character of God and the anchor of Jesus Christ, even amidst the shifting circumstances of a military family.
